About

I set up Chimera Consulting in 2001 to provide the highest quality research and evaluation services to public, community (non profit) and commercial sector clients, in the economic development and regeneration arenas.

Our business model has the CEO at the core and with a select number of trusted, expert associates and researchers to collaborate with if an assignment requires additional capacity and / or expertise to ensure a successful outcome.

Based in the Midlands, Chimera has delivered over 260 assignments to over 170 clients across the U.K. and is seeking further opportunities for growth both domestically and internationally.

My Style

I like to work closely with clients on an assignment to ensure their needs are fully understood and met and I keep clients regularly updated on progress. You should feel I am part of your team you to help meet your objectives, but also bringing objectivity and extensive experience and knowledge to deliver the task in hand. No two clients or assignments are the same and I tailor my approach for each individual client to ensure the best outcome for them.

I have often been told I provide a very “personable but professional” approach in my work. Also, that I go the extra mile to ensure the assignment is delivered with rigour, care and attention to detail.

My clients have provided some great feedback over the years and key features they highlight are:

  • Conscientious

  • Enthusiastic

  • Insightful

  • Pragmatic

  • Honest but also diplomatic!

  • Professional

  • Personable

  • Accessible

  • Flexible

  • Diligent

A socially responsible business

I believe all businesses, no matter how small, can play a positive role in supporting their local communities above and beyond their daily business. Over the last ten years I have provided over 1,500 hours of volunteer time to support charities, voluntary and community sector groups, social enterprises and non-profits. This has been in the form of probono work to help non-profit groups on specific assignments (project business planning, community consultation, funding reviews and grant application support), as well as mentoring and free training sessions (how to develop great funding bids and project business planning).

I was involved with the Business In The Community’s Pro-Help initiative for a number of years and chaired the Nottinghamshire group of SMEs for two years. Furthermore, I was an active East Midlands Business Champion, and Steering Group member, providing non-profit groups with mentoring and organisational support.

I strongly believe businesses can do more to help young people become equipped for the world of work – whether that be through information, advice and guidance, or through mentoring and work experience opportunities. I have given careers presentations to my former University and School and I have signed up to provide further assistance to school students via the Careers Enterprise Company.

Chimera Consulting supports at least one charity each year with a dedicated number of days of free consultancy support. In 2020 I have been supporting the Derventio Housing Trust which provides an excellent range of support to homeless people in Derby and its surrounding areas.

Wider Team

Operating as a sole trader business, I do work in partnership with other consultants, as and when required, either as equitable partners, sometimes as sub-contracted to a larger consultancy firm and as a leader of a team of independent consultants with complementary skills. This model provides greater flexibility to assemble an agile team with the right skills, expertise and capacity for client assignments.

Since 2001, I have worked with a number of independent specialist consultants including David Kirkham (Director of Blinkbright Ltd.), Paul Jeffrey (Director of Paul Jeffrey Associates), Ros Grimes and Geoff Birch amongst others.

I have partnered with or been sub-contracted by several consultancy companies on various assignments, including Ecorys, CleanTech, Equitix, Kada Research, URS Scott Wilson, Cobweb Consulting, Carley Consult, Fresh Life Consulting and CSR.
